We can confidently name at least 10 people off the top of our heads who we know are bald, and this is statistically true too! At least 55% of women and 85% of men experience balding at some point in their lives. Balding, also called androgenetic alopecia, is the process of hair loss due to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). But what is unique about balding is that we are more likely to find more bald men than bald women! And if you have ever wondered why men go bald earlier than women, read on to find answers.
Why Do Men Go Bald Early?

One of the massive reasons why men go bald early is because of testosterone, but both men and women have testosterone. The reason is that men have more testosterone as compared to women, and this testosterone changes to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) due to enzymes, and this compound is the root cause of balding. The production of DHT is low in women because of low testosterone levels and the oestrogen that combats the increase in testosterone. DHT causes balding by striking the hair foliage enough that hair growth becomes impossible.

Summing it up, men are more prone to androgenic alopecia. In addition to high testosterone levels, this condition is also genetically inherited, making it impossible to stop the process of balding. Hair loss in men usually starts with the falling of hair from the temples and, with time, forms an M-shaped hairline. In other cases, hair is lost in the crown too. Most often than not, hair loss in men is irrecoverable, as opposed to hair loss in women, which is most often treatable. In women, there is a possibility of hair regrowth.
Besides, hair loss in women happens along the middle part, as opposed to men. Women do not become completely bald as men do, but instead, there is thinning of hair in the middle part, which is usually treatable, as mentioned previously. Hair loss in women happens more often due to alopecia areata, vitamin deficiencies, and stress.

Other reasons for faster balding in men as compared to women:
- Alopecia Areata
- Telogen Effluvium
- Nutritional Deficiency
- Medication
What should I do about it?
Based on good faith, hair loss, and balding are not conditions that can be reversed but instead can be slowed so as not to get bald fast. Or if you are looking for a fast and semi-permanent fix to your hair balding problems, the fix would be to get laser surgery or hair transplant surgery.

3. Laser Surgery/ Hair Transplant
Low-level user surgeries stimulate the hair follicles through circulation, which promotes hair growth. As this method is fairly new, there has not been much research to prove its effectiveness. But in general, this method has been deemed to be a safe process to re-invigorate hair growth.

There are many different types of hair transplant surgeries ranging from grafting to tissue expansion But the most famous one is grafting, where the healthcare provider takes a healthy path of hair follicles and grafts them into hundreds of pieces and inserts them into follicles that are currently closed.
Other ways to tackle hair balding include quitting smoking, starting a clean diet, and managing stress through physical exercise.

Balding can be a very scary condition to tackle because of the severe effect it has on our confidence, and hence we try to evade it as much as possible, but at the end of the day, it is important to understand that it is a genetic process and we need to be patient with it and do all we can to slow its process to keep those hair follicles on our scalp a little bit longer.
