The #hairtok community has struck again! Are we surprised? No, because it is general knowledge that the beauty and hair care community of TikTok comes up with trends faster than you hit refresh on your FYP, but that is not to say that the hairtok community does not come up with some really cool and effective DIY hair care routines and tips. And this summer Tik Tok brings to you the remix version of the #Beautytok famous; Skin Cycling. The hair care influencers have taken the concept of skin cycling to create a hair cycling routine that, similar to skin cycling, involves the rotation of hair care products interjected by ‘rest’ days to unlock those shiny, healthy tresses.

What is Hair Cycling?

Hair cycling is a form of hair care routine where you regularly rotate between hair products that you use for your scalp and hair as per your personal hair care preferences and needs to achieve results that are specifically optimized for your hair. Hair cycling allows its users to tailor a unique experience for them and their hair, thus making it a highly individualistic process that only you can navigate for yourself. Experts say that hair cycling essentially uses a set of hair care products for your primary or main concern and alternates them with other hair care products for your secondary concerns. Let's suppose you have an oily scalp and colored hair. In that case, you might have to alternate between clarifying shampoos and hydrating vitamin-infused shampoos to tackle your oily scalp while at the same time protecting your color-treated hair.

What are the benefits of hair cycling?

The benefits of hair cycling span a spectrum, and they include:

  • Lets you tackle your primary and secondary hair concerns simultaneously.
  • Ensures a healthy mane and scalp by rotating hair care products.
  • Gives you the flexibility of crafting your own routine, thus making it a unique and self-tailored process for your hair.
  • An effective method to grow hair fast while at the same time tackling hair care problems

What goes into a hair cycling routine?

Before you begin constructing your hair cycling routine, it is essential that you consider a few things, such as your current hair routine. If you are currently washing your hair once or twice a week and it works great for you, then experts suggest that you stick to it on the other hand, if you have the habit of washing your hair several times a week and you are dissatisfied with the way your hair looks or feels, then it is time to consider hair cycling. In addition to this, remember the type and texture of your hair when you are choosing hair care products to build your hair cycling routine.

As we mentioned above, everyone's hair is different, and each type requires its own hair cycling routine, but we have provided a Skelton outline to structure your hair cycling routine within it.

1. The first wash: Detoxifying wash

When you begin a repair, always start with a detoxifying or clarifying shampoo to remove excess oil or dirt and any prior product buildup. Follow it up with a hydrating conditioner to lock the moisture in. As a final tip, finish it up with a hair serum to repair the ends. "I must say I was a little apprehensive about trying a product based on ads but the thrive shampoo totally did the trick. I have frizzy and dry hair and from the first wash, the shampoo actually makes a difference. Add to that the conditioner, it’s a fab experience. Softer, smoother hair. I’m loving it."

3. The Third Wash: preparing and Styling

This third wash is to prep your hair for those styling tools or natural hair drying techniques that you have accustomed your hair to. This step heavily relies upon the type of your hair, i.e., if you have curly hair, then it is best to use curly-friendly shampoo conditioner, and hair serums to make the routine specific for your curly hair.

Hair cycling usually consists of three washes followed by rest days between each wash, but if you would like to have more wash days and fewer rest days, then we suggest you be mindful of the fact that your scalp produces natural hair oils that your hair requires to have balance, so be cautious and don’t go overboard with the number of products and hair washing days you have in your hair cycling routine to ensure the expected results. And with that, we have reached the end of the article. I hope you learned something from it. We’ll see you next week with another brand-new piece.
